Heraklion and its ferry port are located in the centre of Crete's northern coast, Heraklion is the capital of Crete and is the main commercial centre of the island. Ferries operated by Anek Superfast and Minoan connect Heraklion to Pireaus, the port of Athens, mainland Greece. There is a daily connection with ferries carrying a combination of both passenger and freight traffic. Ferry services are also available from Heraklion to other Aegean Sea islands such as Santorini, Ios, Paros and Mykonos although some of these services will be operated by smaller fast crafts which are unable to accept larger freight vehicles.

The port of Heraklion is well equipped for passengers, you will find many shops, bars and restuarants inside the port and also within walking distance.


Getting to Heraklion by road

Heraklion is in the center of the north coast of Crete Island, if driving from Agios Nikolaos, take the national road and drive towards west, which is the shortest way to reach Heraklion and follow signs to the ferry port. From within the town of Heraklion drive towrds north or along the sea side and follow signs. Driving from Rethymnon or Chania to Heraklion, take the national road, drive towards west and follow the signs.
